Hello, Middle School Students and Families!

Today we had our final MS Meeting before Spring Break.

Three things to note before we jump into the Meeting Minutes:

  1. This Friday’s dismissal is at 2:25 p.m.; there are no Afternoon Activities. All buses will depart by 2:35 p.m.
  2. We’ll see you back at Beaver after the break on Tuesday, March 29. Monday is a Professional Development Day for our faculty and staff.
  3. Masks are required the first week back from spring break. You can read more in last week’s Health Update.

Enjoy the recap, and have a wonderful break!

Quinn Burke ’28 and Verveine Oringer ’27 ran today’s meeting. You can check out the slides from this week’s meeting here.

This week’s…

BVR STUDENT HIGHLIGHT
TheBVRStudent3.8
Bradley Stone ’27 presented The BVR Student element Expresses Opinions Mindful of Intent and Impact.

“I think this is important because people could be offended by what you say. If you have an unpopular opinion that people are not on board with, consider keeping it to yourself unless it really comes up and is necessary to say. You should try to share your opinion knowing it is not the most important, that people may not agree with you and that is ok.”

FEED YOUR BRAIN PICK

And Then There Were None By Agatha Christie

Recommended by Leila Sakoulis ’27

WHAT I LIKED ABOUT THIS BOOK …
“It’s about a group of people getting invited to an island party, but they don’t know who sent the invitation. They’re trapped on the island, and every night someone dies. It was a very interesting and thrilling story.”

WHY I THINK YOU WOULD LIKE IT …
“I would recommend the book because it is a good read for someone who loves suspense, mystery, and thrill.”

Today in RISE they did a nature walk in Dane Park.

Book Club meets Friday—during the second lunch—to discuss, Cheer Up: Love and Pompoms.

Also happening this week …

Katie Born ’28 recapped the Bias in the Media BVR Leadership Institute workshop, which took place Monday. A total of 27 students attended.

In the workshop, students:

  • Talked about how racism is baked into media images, Google searches, and TikTok feeds—and how equitable representation is essential for teens.
  • Did an online audit of stores like Urban Outfitters, Brandy Melville, Lululemon, and the Gap to find gender, body, and race bias in the models.
  • Discussed ways to prevent these biases from affecting the way they think and feel about themselves and others by auditing their personal TikTok feeds.

The next Hiatt Institute workshop is Monday, April 4.

Nate Guevin from the D-Level reminded students about the D-Level Spring Cleaning event. All projects left on the D-Level after today that are not labeled will be recycled.

The Upper School Choreography Foundations class invited the Middle School to their Winter Showcase Thursday at noon. The showcase will include original pieces created during the first and second terms. Afterward, students can ask the performers about their work.

Today was the first day of our Winter Music Exhibit, and the Price and Glass string ensembles performed. Unlike the fall exhibit, the winter exhibit is happening during the school day. Each ensemble will present for about 20 minutes during music class this week in Bradley Hall, with their peers as the audience. This will be a way for students to show each other and their teachers what they’ve learned this winter. Tomorrow’s presentation is by the Williams and Ozawa ensembles; Thursday is the chorus.

  • We will share out videos of all the performances with families Friday.

We reminded students they must wear a mask when visiting the nurse’s office; all students should have a mask in their bag. Students should not go to the nurse’s office in groups.

8th-grade students will visit two Upper School classes on Friday, April 1; they are selecting the classes they will attend.

  • Save the Date: The Upper School is hosting a “Welcome to the Upper School” event for 8th-grade parents/caregivers on March 31 at 6 p.m. on-campus; you will receive an email with more details later this week.
