Boys’ Varisty Soccer
The Boys’ Varsity Soccer Team completed the regular season this past week with a solid 3-1 win over Lexington Christian Academy. Goals came from Silmar Bueno ’14, Jamie Kennedy ’15, and Nat Brown ’15. Bueno completed the season with 21 goals and 9 assists, making him the league’s leader in goals and points. The boys finished the regular season with a league record of 13-1-0 and a second consecutive EIL championship.
On Saturday evening, the team was recognized for its success by earning the number one seed in the NEPSAC Class C Tournament. The Boys will take on number 8 seed Hebron Academy at 2:00 pm on Wednesday at Phillips Andover.
The Varsity Golf Team played their league tournament on Wednesday at Stow Acres. It was an 18 hole stroke play tournament with all of the schools in the league participating. It was a challenging day on the course for a lot of the competitors. John Kalnins ’14 had the lowest round on the team that day shooting an 89, which was second best in his flight. Tyler DeLuca ’14 won the closest to the pin competition, and was within a few yards of also winning the longest drive competition. The team finishes their season Friday afternoon with a friendly match at home against the faculty.
The Beaver Boys and Girls Cross Country Teams finished up the 2013 season on a high note at the Nepsta Division IV Championships held at Marianapolis Academy. The Boys team finished 10th out of 29 teams as Senior George Wright and Senior Captain Murray Skolnick earned All New England honors placing 2nd and 20th respectively. Beaver only ran 6 runners in the varsity race due to some last minute illness and injuries to Will French, Jackson Wu and Liam Brady. Freshmen Ryan Joy was the second freshmen in the race running a personal best followed by Samuel Glenn who made his return to the team after a month long absense with an injury. Sophomore Niles Cohen and Captain Clayton Starr rounded out the varsity team.
Three Boys runners also placed in the Top 20 in the JV race. Sophomore Kent Ellertson was runner up, followed by Pablo Fiori finishing 10th and Matt Lapuck finishing 13th.
On the Girls side, Freshmen Libby Pohl was runner up earning all Nepsta honors running a personal best of 20:19. With four runners competing the Girls Team didn’t score in the meet, but Senior Alexandra Bernard, Junior Catherine Wei and Sophie Mattoon turned in solid performances to finish up their seasons.
George Wright, Murray Skolnick and Libby Pohl earned an invitation to next week’s NEPSTA All Star Race which will be held at St. Mark’s. The Girls race begins at 2 PM and Boys race at 2:30 pm. This will feature the top 20 runners from all four divisions in the NEPSTA.
