Boys Cross Country
Competing in a field of 24 Division IV New England Preparatory Schools on a notoriously difficult Millbrook School course, Beaver finished in 8th place at this year’s NEPSTA Championship Meet. Beaver’s top two finishers came in first and second overall, both surpassing the previously set course record. Joe Connelly set a new course record with his finishing time of 17:58. George Wright crossed the line one second later in a time of 17:59. Both athletes were awarded with All-New England honors and certificates for their performances. Beaver also had another top-50 performance in Junior captain Murray Skolnick, who finished in 49th overall. Beaver’s 4th and 5th finishers on the day were both Freshmen; Niles Cohen finished in 83rd and Charlie DeLorey crossed the line in 89th.
Girls Cross Country
On Saturday November 10th, the girls cross country team headed to the Millbrook School for the NEPSTA Division four championship. The course was one of the toughest in New England. The ladies fought through and ran a tough race. The team was led by Alexandra Bernard with a time of 26:44 and followed by Catherine Wei with a time of 31:25. This was the last race of the 2012 season. After all of their effort and dedication this year the girls and coaches are looking forward to see what the 2013 season will bring.
Field Hockey
The Beaver field hockey team completed their season on Friday with a home game against LCA. Beaver came up short, but left knowing they gave a strong effort in the last game for the seniors. In the second half Beaver outshot LCA and held the ball within the attacking 25 for much of the time.
Golf
Varsity Golf played in the EIL tournament last Wednesday at Carnegie Abbey in conditions that were not favorable. When the teams started the day at 10 AM, it was cold and windy, and it just got worse from there. The rain started after about 4 holes and did not let up for the rest of the day. The golfers usually play 18 holes of stroke play, but because the conditions were so difficult, the coaches and athletic directors who were present decided to have the players only play 9 holes and call it after that. The team ended up in 4th place (shooting a combined 64 over par), and only missed 3rd place by 1 stroke. Junior John Kalnins, playing at the 6th spot, had a very strong outing (shooting an 8 over par), and he won his flight. His round was the best on the team for the day, and it was also the 6th best overall of the 44 golfers in the field.
Boys Soccer
The boys soccer team completed an undefeated run in the EIL with wins against Landmark and LCA. The boys won both games comfortably and finished the season 14-0-0 in league play and 17-2-0 overall. The team earned the #2 seed in the NEPSAC tournament and will host Marionapolis on Wednesday at 2:00 pm in the quarterfinal.
Girls Soccer
The Girls’ Soccer team ended their regular season with a 5-2 loss against top EIL opponent LCA. Beaver goals were scored by Maria Zecca and Mackenzie Mills. On Saturday the team traveled to Pingree to participate in the EIL tournament. Beaver faced Newton Country Day in their first match and gave up a goal with 4 minutes left in the game to lose 2-1. Maddie Brucker scored the lone goal for Beaver. In their final match, Beaver faced Concord and came away with a 1-0 win to end the season. The win was a result of a solid team effort and a goal from Maria Zecca and Grace Brescia.
