The all-day conference will include workshops and panel discussions on the benefits and challenges of using social media applications, both in the classroom and for institutional advancement. For Beaver, which became a 1:1 laptop school, the summit offers an opportunity for faculty to reflect on the potential for social media to enhance the way they instruct and engage students.
Keynote speaker Ben Jones will talk about his experience using social media at Oberlin College, where he is VP of Communications, and at the M.I.T. Admission Office, where as the Director of Communications he launched the highly successful student blogs on M.I.T.’s website.
Among the presenters will be Beaver English teacher Robin Neal, who will talk about the wiki he used in his “Local Living Writers” elective, and Beaver’s communications team, Jan Devereux and Matt Clobridge, who will discuss the way they are spotlighting student work through the BCDS mashUp.
