What is life like as a Beaver student? We interviewed several students across all grades—from middle school to senior year—to get a peek into the Beaver student experience. Below you’ll hear from Rishaan Chowdhury—a rising Beaver senior. Rishaan shares his thoughts on 6th grade, starting a student-led newspaper, and more!
Let’s talk about Middle School. You just finished your 6th grade year! What was it like?
The school year was really fun, there were so many opportunities to do activities related to your interests and find new interests. I learned about debate and now it is one of my favorite things to do, thanks to Beaver
What’s a project or an assignment you worked on that you really liked and why?
A project that I liked was probably my extracurricular newspaper that I created. Beaver gave me all the support I needed and so far it has been going great. I had a newspaper at my old school and I really enjoyed sharing world news with my peers, that was my inspiration. I felt like Beaver was very supportive, they immediately helped me find a teacher that I trusted and that could help and then Beaver was happy to help me grow my newspaper in any way that I wanted, I think that the rapid growth of the project and it’s success is owed in a large part to Beaver and Mr. Greenberg.
I hope that people will come away from reading the paper with a fresh perspective on the world, new knowledge and/or insight about a topic, and the understanding that regardless of age anyone can still accomplish anything if they are passionate about it.
Tell me about a teacher you really enjoyed and why.
My favorite teacher was Mr. Greenberg because he made his class really fun. He knew how to balance the rich curriculum with fun and enjoyment and created one of the best classes I have ever taken!
What are you excited about in the upcoming year?
In the upcoming year I am really excited to continue the projects I had started, like the newspaper. Additionally, I am excited to try creating a new MS debate team
