Club Spotlight: New club leaders reflect on starting their clubs

Every term, students have the opportunity to create new clubs centered around their interests. This term, five new clubs have popped up on campus: Criminology Club, Music Production Club, Philosophy Club, Leftist Students’ Union, and Veterinary Club. Several of these new club leaders shared their inspiration, excitement, and vision for their clubs.

Veterinary Club

Maddy Bell ’26 has a lifelong passion for animals. “What inspired by love for the field [of veterinary medicine] is dogs,” Maddy says. “When my dog tore her ACL, I really wanted to learn what was going on. I’ve been interested ever since.” Maddy envisioned a space on campus where animal lovers can collaborate with students planning on studying veterinary medicine after high school. By creating the Veterinary Club, Maddy is hoping that she can build a community centered around animals. “A main goal I have with this club is to have fun, while also learning.”

Leftist Students’ Union

Rather than forming a club based on career aspirations or hobbies, seniors Christian Haas ’25 and Aidan Magel ’25 narrowed in on something else: politics. “I think that our interest in politics and leftist politics made us want to discuss more about these topics,” Christian mentions. The Leftist Students’ Union was founded upon the idea of conversation, creating a space where students can learn just as much as they share. Due to the political nature of the group, Christian and Aidan worked closely with Club Coordinator Mr. Huston to ensure the club would be accessible to all. “We’re more than happy to take on new perspectives with people of all backgrounds and different political beliefs, there’s no barrier,” Aidan adds.

Criminology Club

Juniors Maddie Dorman ’26 and Talia Wilk ’26 created the Criminology Club this year with the goal of inspiring interest in criminology across campus. “I think the club would be perfect for anyone who likes mystery movies, murder mystery games, or true crime podcasts,” Talia mentions. After forming the club, Maddie and Talia were amazed at the response they received; “It was actually surprising how many people wanted to join,” Maddie says.
