Meet Beaver student Harris Kader ’25

What is life like as a Beaver student? We interviewed several students across all grades—from middle school to senior year—to get a peek into the Beaver student experience. Below you’ll hear from Harris Kader—a rising Beaver senior. Harris shares his plans for senior year, his favorite Beaver lunch, and more!

You’re a senior this year, congrats! What does your upcoming year look like?
Busy! I will have to balance college applications with my senior year workload, but I am looking forward to the classes that I signed up for and sports season. If you follow the typical schedule/class recommendations as an underclassmen, your choices for classes as an upperclassmen will be of a wide variety and appealing (this could be affected if you are entering after freshman year due to credits and classes being taken at your previous school). In December, after the application process is complete, I will be attending SDLC in Denver with a couple of other BVR students. Something I am really looking forward to.

What would you say is the BEST part of Beaver?

There are multiple factors that make Beaver awesome, but I would say the teachers, community, and opportunities.

What’s a class you took or a project you worked on that you really enjoyed? Why?
It is hard to choose a class I didn’t enjoy, every class was unique and engaging. In freshman year, I enjoyed the physics classes with Mr. Zachry. Sophomore year was chemistry with Ms. Wildes and during my Junior year was Intro to Investing with Mr. Mckinney. Each of those classes included a fair amount of discussion based learning, project opportunities and a chance to dive deeper in topics of your choice. Although, those reasons apply to almost every class at Beaver.

Could you share a bit about a teacher who has made an impact on your experience?
Ms. Ellman. She is a teacher, although I haven’t had her as one, she is my advisor. I would say the best advisor ever. As a college counselor and someone who has worked at Beaver for a long time, she never fails to give us phenomenal advice and steer us into the right direction. There have been multiple times where I needed some guidance or help with an assignment and she and she has always been there to provide support and valuable insights. Things like that have made my Beaver/high school experience truly enjoyable and fulfilling.

Describe what it’s like to be a Beaver student.
Being a Beaver student isn’t short from a positive experience. Coming from a strict all boys middle school, it seemed like all the freedom in the world was located under Beaver’s roof. In every class your skills are appreciated and your presence is valued. Despite the great amount of free-time incorporated into our schedules, there are a lot of opportunities available to fill up your time and gain new experiences. Not everything is joyful as like every school in the country, we get homework. Although, teachers are more than happy to help you work on it and with the time on our schedules, lots of time to complete it before you get home.

What’s your favorite lunch?
Chicken and Mac & cheese. I do miss the Chicken & Waffles, those were the best.
