Hello, Middle School Students and Families! Below is this week’s MS Meeting recap.

THE BVR STUDENT
Conor McKinley ’29 and Patrick Shea ’29 presented: Connects with friends, family, and others.
It’s important to have healthy relationships with your friends and family. You won’t feel lonely and sad and you will have people who have your back. For example, my friends make me feel better when I am down. Whenever I am feeling sad or upset, my family will always cheer me up and help me.

Last week 6th grade students went to Dane Park. During their first visit, students met two indigenous elders from the Wampanoag and Nipmuc tribes. They shared their knowledge about the local ecosystem and about medicinal uses for plants. On their second visit, students supported the local ecosystem by removing invasive plants. They used gloves and pruning shears to remove Garlic Mustard and Japanese Knotweed.
Some of their reflections were shared:
I used to think that plants in the wild were only consumed by animals and not used for medical purposes. Now I know that humans can consume wild plants if approved by experts and plants can be used for medical purposes whether it’s made into tea or the direct plant is rubbed onto the skin.
I used to think that you could only use medicine to help with poison ivy and stinging nettle. Now I know you can use plants as natural medicine.
I used to think poisoning an invasive plant was OK. Now I know it ends up harming the plants around it leading to that food chain.
Rishaan Chowdhury ’29 announced this month’s Guess The Candy in the Jar contest: Sour Patch Kids.
Sharing the Wisdom: 8th graders presented an important middle school topic. CK’s advisory presented on Advice for Athletes.
Andrew Isacson, Sky Bernon, Jack McKinley, Lily Roetter, and Kylie Marcus shared:
- Be confident. Believe in yourself
- Cheer on your teammates. Encourage them to do their best
- Try new things and new sports. It’s important to take advantage of new sports and new opportunities. It gives you a chance to overcome obstacles
- Take feedback from your coaches. Be an attentive and respectful listener. Be willing to take constructive criticism and grow from it
- Afternoon activities are an important part of the day. Sports have a lot of benefits such as keeping you fit and allowing you to try new things with your friends
- The most important thing is to have fun and give it your all!
Dismissal on Friday is at 2:25 p.m. for Memorial Day weekend. All buses will depart at 2:35 p.m.
