This story follows the journey of a young girl, Ti Moune, who is orphaned by a storm and taken in by a peasant family on the island Hispaniola, which has strong divisions between its ruling and peasant classes She eventually falls in love with Daniel, a boy from a wealthy family, and their bond is tested when the gods use them to determine if love is stronger than death. Performed by an ensemble cast in the storytelling tradition, Once On This Island, explores whether love and life can survive when faced with great adversity.
