Girls’ Varsity Tennis –
The Girls’ Varsity Tennis team faced two more league opponents this past week – Portsmouth Abbey and Dana Hall. The girls had a very strong showing against Portsmouth Abbey, winning all five matches in straight sets. In the match against Dana Hall, all three singles players – Gabby Marks ’15, Michaela Markwart ’18 and Hayley Zukerberg ’16 had very convincing wins. The first doubles team of Electra Walker ’15 and Lauren Morgart ’18, danced their way to victory as the Wellesley College softball team was listening to music during the match. The all senior, second doubles team of Catherine Wei and Rachel Feldman fought hard through a tough three set match where they ultimately fell 5-7 in the third. Nonetheless, it was an impressive win and a great week of competition, as the girls brought their record up to 4-0 on the season. The team faces one of its toughest opponents of the season, on Monday against Nobles. It should be a great battle, so please come out and support the team! GO BEAVER!!!
Boys’ Varsity Tennis –
Boys’ Varsity Tennis had a packed schedule this past week playing three matches in four days. The first was a nail-biter against Pingree that resulted in a 3-2 loss. The two wins came from the team’s first singles player, Gabe Belkind ’15, and the second doubles duo of the Waldman brothers. The boys have a rematch with Pingree on 5/13 and could use all the fan support possible. On Wednesday, the team traveled to Portsmouth Abbey to face off against a powerhouse squad. The team fought hard but eventually fell 5-0. On Friday, Bancroft came to visit the team at home. The team played its best tennis sweeping the Bancroft team 5-0. Most notably, the lineup consisted of all six Seniors making it a veteran sweep. This week the team will take on Berwick away on Wednesday.
Girls’ JV Tennis –
Girls’ JV Tennis had a very busy week with three matches in four days. The first was Tuesday at the Cambridge School of Weston. Beaver came away with the year’s first victory, 3-1. Jasmin Breakstone ’16 and Lily Harkins ’18 won at singles, and Mollie Devins ’16 and Julia Schwartz ’15 won at doubles. Wednesday brought the first home match versus Portsmouth Abbey. Beaver won 4-1 including singles victories by Jasmin Breakstone and Maya Kinel ’18 and doubles wins by Lily Harkins and Julia Schwartz. On Friday the team traveled to Dana Hall. Unfortunately they were not able to prevail for the third time. The team is looking forward to two more matches this week.
Boys’ JV Tennis –
The Boys’ JV tennis team traveled up to Pingree last week, and came away with a 4-1 win. The win was highlighted by a come-from-behind 7-5 win by Zach Weiss ’17 at 2nd singles. The boys also had wins from co-captain Sam Zintl ’16 at 3rd singles, from Michael Schaff ’16 and co-captain Joey Searle ’16 at 1st doubles, and from Will Ferguson ’17 and Gideon Hamot ’17 at 2nd doubles. This week, the team will host Cambridge School of Weston on Tuesday at 4:15 p.m. at the Baker School Courts.
Boys’ Varsity Lacrosse –
The Boys’ Varsity Lacrosse team had a tough game on Wednesday against league leader Pingree and lost 14 – 4. Captain Nat Brown ’15, captain Jimmy Bell ’15, Jabari Johnson ’17 and Chris Bucking ’18 each scored for Beaver, and the defense was anchored by captain Alex Volcy ’15 and fellow seniors Eric LiBassi ’15 and Tyler Monaghan ’15. Dan MacDonald ’15 played in goal and came up with some big saves. The team looks to rebound this week when it hosts LCA on Monday and travels to play Worcester Academy on Wednesday.
Girls’ Varsity Lacrosse –
The Girls’ Varsity Lacrosse team faced two league opponents, Pingree and Dana Hall, this past week. Despite a hard fight, the team came away with two losses, bringing the season’s record to 1 win, 1 tie, and 4 losses. Justine Hatton ’16 and Sydney Brown ’17 led the team with 5 goals and 2 goals, respectively. This week the girls will host Concord Academy on Wednesday, April 29 and Winsor on Friday May 1.
Varsity Baseball –
Beaver Country Day won their third game of the season at home vs Portsmouth Abbey on Friday. Jamie Kennedy ’15 started the game on the mound with a solid three innings pitched giving up no runs, and Ben Fox ’16 closed out the run rule shortened game with a final score of 13-2. The bats continued to be hot, chalking up 9 hits overall, including a 3-3 day with a home run by Henry Hirshland ’15 (2) and 5 RBI’s. Spencer Shapiro ’16 also got in on the action with 3 RBI’s of his own.
Varsity Softball –
The Varsity Softball Team went on the road for two games last week. On Tuesday, the team played against cross-town rival Brimmer and May and came up short. Then on Wednesday, the girls made the long trip to Berwick Academy for a league contest. Unfortunately, the Berwick Bulldogs proved too much, as the team lost another game. This week the team will travel to Concord Academy on Wednesday, April 29, and then host Winsor on Friday May 1.
Ultimate Frisbee –
The Beaver Ultimate team continued to impress this past week with a 15 – 2 win over CSW’s B Team. Grabbing a convincing victory over them was a confidence booster for Beaver Ultimate, and the team is ready for its next opponent.
