Boys’ Varsity Basketball –
The Beaver Varsity Boys’ Basketball team defeated Nobles and Greenough on Saturday 55-51. The team was down 9 at the half. The team was able to pick up the defensive pressure and held Nobles to 19 2nd half points. This week the team has two key games against league opponent Pingree on Wednesday and on Saturday they host one of the top teams in Class B, Rivers.
Girls’ Varsity Basketball –
The Girls’ Varsity Basketball team has weathered the snow and the opponents. Their re-match with a very talented LCA team would go down tho the last shot at the buzzer. Down by 9 with just over 8 minutes to go, the team dug down deep for another gear to overcome the deficit and win 43-40. The snow disrupted the schedule, but they were able to travel to Bancroft to face a young team, and won 52-25. This week they have a match-up with Pingree at Beaver on Wednesday, February 4th at 4:30 p.m.
Varsity Fencing –
Beaver fencing had a strong performance at International School of Boston’s first home meet on Friday. The women’s squad, fencing with incomplete foil and saber squads, won 10-8. The men’s squad lost 13-14, with men’s foil making a strong 6-3 performance. Unfortunately, the men’s epee squad lost 2-7 to the more experienced boys from ISB which made the difference between a win and a loss.
In a five school meet on Sunday the team faired well: First round with BUA: boys win 20-7, girls win 18-6
Second round with Cambridge Rindge and Latin: boys win 17-10, girls win 16-10
3 / BB&N: boys lose 11-16, girls lose 13-14
4 / CCHS: boys lose 11-16, girls lose 10-17
5 / Bishop Feehan: boys win 15-12, girls lose 7-20.
Girls’ Varsity Ice Hockey –
This past weekend the Girls Varsity Ice Hockey team hosted Portsmouth Abbey at Dexter School. Portsmouth scored first halfway through the first period and held on to the lead for the entire game. The girls broke the shutout in the first minute of the 3rd period. Molly Honan carried the puck into the zone, passing to Sydney Brown who got a hard shot on net, leaving Remi Shore in front to put the rebound away for her 3rd goal of the season. A few minutes later Molly Honan put a long shot over Portsmouth’s goalie’s shoulder for Beaver’s second goal of the game. Vida Bailey stood up many shots in a 26 save performance. This week the team travels back up to Pingree before facing Berwick @ Dexter School this upcoming weekend.
Varsity Wrestling –
Due to the recent weather, the Beaver boys in blue have been on a bit of a competition hiatus. They have been practicing hard every day with hopes of getting back on the mat and competing. Next on the schedule for Beaver wrestling is a tri-meet against PA and LCA at Portsmouth Abbey on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. Following that will be the Northern New England Invitational this Saturday at Tilton School in New Hampshire.
