Girls Varsity Basketball –
Girls Varsity Basketball finished 2014 strong with a solid win over EIL competitor Berwick. Beaver opened the lead to over 20 with sharpshooting and lock down defense. The team completes 2014 with a 4-0 record.
Boys Varsity Basketball –
The Beaver Boy’s Basketball team finished in third place at the Rivers Holiday Tournament. Beaver played two teams in Class A by beating St. Sebastian’s and BB&N. Beaver lost a close game to the # 2 ranked team in Class B Rivers. The tough competition will prepare the team for their January schedule where they will play some of the top teams in New England.
Girls Varsity Ice Hockey –
The Girls Varsity Ice Hockey team faced off against rival Newton Country Day on Tuesday. The team took what was their first lead of the season with a goal by Molly Honan ’17 in the first 30 seconds of the game. The girls held onto the lead for most of the first period before Newton struck back with a few quick goals to end the period. The girls played one of their best efforts of the season but came up short against Newton. Lila O’Neil ’20 stepped up as goalie again and made some incredible saves throughout the game. The team is off for a well deserved winter break before coming back with a big first week against Brooks JV, Pingree, and Dana Hall to start the second half of the season.
Varsity Wrestling –
The Beaver Wrestling team started off its season with a bang this week. On Wednesday, the boys in blue traveled to Waltham to battle it out with CHCH and PA. Notable matches of the night included Jacob Weil’s ’17 first career win which came in the third period by means of a pin after leading by a score of 10-3. Also posting his first career win was freshman Hudson Roddy ’18 who displayed an inherent knack for the sport and carried himself like a seasoned veteran. On Saturday, freshman Ben Campbell ’18 and captain Dan McDonald ’15 headed to Tabor Academy for the annual Battle on the Bay Tournament. Going 2-2 on the day, Ben Campbell ’18 proved that he is ready for the high school spotlight. Dan McDonald ’15 matched that record with an uncompromising display of drive and hard work.
Varsity Fencing –
Both the boys and girls fencing teams posted solid victories this past week at their dual meet with the International School of Boston at Dynamo Fencing Center in Newton. The boys won with a score of 20-7, while the girls won with a score of 19-8. The highlight of the day was the boys sabre squad’s perfect 9-0 victory, followed close behind by the girls epee squad, which gave up a single bout, going 8-1. The team’s next meet will be vs. Commonwealth after winter break.
