Today at All School Meeting, senior Joey Kremer spoke about the Veteran Memorial that has been installed at the base of the Beaver Country Day School flag pole. See his remarks below.

“Hello everyone,

As the president of the Young Republican’s club, I am very excited to present to you today the newest installation on our campus, the Beaver Country Day School Veteran Memorial. It lies at the base of our flag pole near the entrance to the math classrooms. Over the past year, I have worked on this project with my club, along with Ms. De Rosa, Ms. Trask, and Mr. Parson. I wanted to give you all a quick background of this project and the work that went in to it.

When I created the Young Republican’s club last year, I had the goal of working with the members of the club to create something everybody in our community would enjoy. This would be something that garners respect from everyone, regardless of their political affiliation. We realized that it would be most appropriate to honor the Beaver Country Day alumni, faculty, and staff for their service in the United States Military. I believe this memorial is a great way to bring everyone in our community closer together, to recognize that patriotism is something we all should put first and focus on together.

It is my sincere hope that when you pass this memorial, whether it is on your way to class, during school, or on your way home, you stop to reflect on a few things. One, that the reason we are able to live free lives is due to the neverending sacrifice that the men and women of our military make every day. Never forget that the well being of these heroes and their families is always at stake for you. Two, that the opportunities you have in life must never be taken for granted, because others have laid down their lives in the hope that we use are every ability to create a better world. And three, that we have a responsibility to give back to veterans and those who are currently serving. I urge you to volunteer for organizations that focus on improving the condition of those who have served and are currently serving. The Wounded Warrior Project and the USO are great examples of organizations you can join.

Now, for those of you who don’t know, Mr. Clippinger is a Veteran of the Vietnam War where he served in the Army. I encourage you all to get to know him, and the story of his service.

Also, I want to thank everyone who donated money to this project; parents and students; this wouldn’t have been possible without you all.
