Girls Varsity Soccer –
The Girls Varsity Soccer team earned a big win against Dana Hall on Friday. After playing to a 0-0 score at halftime, the girls broke through in the second half with a beautiful goal by Sophie Goldstein ’18 off a through ball from Tess Huckaby. Minutes later, Huckaby tallied one more with a free kick goal from near the corner flag. Beaver’s back four played solid and composed defense, and goalkeeper Remi Shore ’16 was outstanding, commanding the box and making a number of good saves.
The girls then traveled to Portsmouth Abbey for their homecoming, and came away with a big 8-0 win. It was a true team effort. Justine Hatton ’16 earned a hat trick, Julia Schwartz ’15 scored twice, and Tess Huckaby ’18, Maddie Mullin ’18 and Chloe Winston ’15 each scored. Again, the back four were solid and Remi Shore ’16 and Adia Maund ’17 gave strong performances in the goal. The team finished the week at 4-2 overall, and tied for second place in the EIL.
Boys Varsity Soccer –
The Boys Varsity Soccer team was on the road twice this past week for EIL matchups with Berwick and Portsmouth Abbey. The team was held to a 1-1 draw at Berwick despite outshooting their opponents 12-2 and carrying play throughout the match. On Saturday, the boys rebounded with a critical win against previously unbeaten Portsmouth Abbey. Alex Zecca ’15 tallied twice on fine individual efforts. The scoring was rounded out on a great feed from Dan McDonald ’15 to Dan Sheetz ’15. The team will host Pingree on Tuesday and Concord Academy on Thursday.
Varsity Volleyball –
The Varsity Volleyball team suffered a loss to Dana Hall 3-0 this week. The girls have continued to progress defensively and with their serving. The team is looking to bounce back into the win column against Newton on Monday.
Varsity Field Hockey –
The Varsity Field Hockey team started the week out strong with a 1-0 win against Montrose school Tuesday afternoon. Senior captain Grace Bucking gave Beaver the lead needed to win the game. Unfortunately that momentum did not carry over to Friday afternoon’s contest against Dana Hall. After a well fought battle, Beaver’s strong defense was not enough to stop Dana Hall from scoring 4 goals for the win. Saturday the team traveled to Portsmouth Abbey where the heat, injuries and a strong opponent proved too much for Beaver, as the girls lost 6-0. Keeping high heads and hearts, Beaver is looking forward to a few days rest and will be recharged and ready to go for next Wednesday when they face top seeded LCA on Beaver’s home turf at 3:45 p.m.
Varsity Golf –
The Varsity Golf team had a strong week winning both of the home matches against Concord Academy on Tuesday and Bancroft on Friday. Concord was only able to bring 4 golfers to the match on Tuesday and had to forfeit two of the spots, but Beaver was still able to win 6 – 0. Ben Snyder ’17, captain Nick Vaream ’16, Zach Weiss ’17, and Aram Soultanian ’17 all won their matches. On Friday, the team hosted Bancroft and played a very tight match. The score was tied 3 – 3 after the 6 matches and had to go to the first tiebreaker, which is number of holes won. Beaver won 17 holes to Bancroft’s 9 and came away with the victory. Joey Kremer ’15 had the best round of the day for Beaver with a 45, and Ben Snyder ’17, and Zach Weiss ’17 also won their matches. Their wins were by enough holes to claim victory for the school. The team will host LCA on Wednesday and travel to Berwick on Thursday.
Varsity Cross Country –
The Varsity Cross Country team had an exciting second meet on their home course at Larz Anderson Park. The boys won against Pingree, taking 8 of the top 10 spots and making them 2-0. The girls lost to Winsor and Pingree, but they ran hard, and Libby Pohl ’17 took first place in the girls’ race. All returning athletes from last year’s cross country team improved their home course personal bests, some by 2 or more minutes! Next week, they will run against Portsmouth Abbey and Dana Hall.
