EIL wrestling champ Ramon Romao ’11 earned a berth in the National Prep Wrestling Tournament in Pennsylvania this weekend based on his 4th place finish at the recent NEPSAC Championship.
Fresh off his win at the EIL Championships at Beaver earlier this month, Ramon was seeded 9th in the 135-lb. weight class at NEPSAC Tournament held February 20 at Lexington Christian Academy. He lost a close first round match to the 8th seed, but quickly recovered his fighting spirit and won four straight consolation matches, securing a spot on the medal stand and the #4 ranking in his division for all of New England. The NEPSAC result qualified him to compete against the country’s top high school wrestlers at the national tournament at Lehigh University on February 25-27.
Head coach Josh Rosenthal, who will accompany Ramon to the Nationals, said, “Ramon has worked so hard, and this is a great achievement for him. This is the first time in memory that a Beaver wrestler has qualified for the Nationals, and we’re very proud of Ramon for putting Beaver’s wrestling program on the map.”
