Upper School Wrap-Up: 10.03.25

Posted on October 4, 2025

Here are some highlights from the last two weeks—September 22 through October 3—in the Upper School.

Getting into the Harvestfest spirit: Student Council worked tirelessly this week to bring Harvestfest–and the week of festivities leading up to it–to life. A spirit week including “USA day,” “business casual day,” “80’s vs 00’s,” and “all black” gave students the opportunity to compete for points by dressing on theme. At a pep rally on Friday, students faced off against faculty/staff in a game of volleyball (which teachers narrowly won).

🦫 Happy Harvestfest! Beaver’s annual night of games against Portsmouth Abbey was a huge success, bringing together students, parents, faculty, and staff. The evening featured volleyball, soccer, and field hockey games in addition to a pop-up swag shop and food truck. 🗳️ 9th grade students cast their ballots: Students running for the position of 9th grade class representative took the podium to deliver speeches to their peers. The position of class representative is a key leadership opportunity for 9th graders, helping to lay the groundwork for the following four years at Beaver. Congratulations to the newly elected class reps Ave Hurley, David Yatskar, and Marli Forrester!

🎨  Art class goes off campus: Ceramics and Intro to 3D students took a trip to the Praise Shadows Gallery to explore Roberto Lugo’s work. Lugo–who combines traditional ceramic work with social activism–helped inspire students to consider their own interests and how they can be represented through art.

⚽️ The BVR World Cup continues! The Multiracial affinity group continued their celebration of Beaver’s diversity with the BVR World Cup semifinals. Students and teachers took to the Upper Field to represent countries of their choosing in two soccer matches. The winners will enter the BVR World Cup finals, scheduled for Friday, October 10.

📚 Students become Boston Public Library experts: Students in Advanced History: Independent Research took a trip to the Boston Public Library. The trip comes as part of a student-led inquiry into differentiating research methods depending on one’s goals. Students explored the resources available to them at the Boston Public Library, gaining a deeper understanding of the function libraries serve as both research tools and hubs of community services.
