Level up your photography, video making, and digital art skills and ideas in this dynamic new media course. Students will mesh DSLR cameras with Photoshop, Illustrator, Capcut, and iMovie. Look to elevate your visuals with large-format printing, digital projectors, and alternative processes that combine objects and the virtual world. Researching contemporary artists will support your self-directed process and help you explore how to exhibit your work.

Prerequisites: Intro to Photography, or Intro to 2D, or by recommendation from the Visual Art Department Head.

Whether your focus is illustration, animation, or experimental techniques, this class offers the flexibility to explore a range of artistic expressions while mastering the digital tools of the future.

This course builds off your technical skills and interests in Digital Art. You will enhance your understanding of digital art-making tools while developing your point of view as a digital artist. Prerequisites: Digital Art and recommendation from the Visual Art Department Head.

Intro to Photography

Interests: Film, Media, Sports, Storytelling, Technology

This course spans photographic processes from the first camera to the darkroom, to the DSLR, to digital post-production Adobe Tools. As photographers, students will learn to observe light, color, and composition to better understand how to make a photograph. Reflecting, discussing, and thinking critically about the world of photography will lead to deeper ideas. Prerequisites: Intro to Visual Arts or by the recommendation from the Visual Art Department Head.

Performing Arts

Beatmaking and Electronic Music

Interests: Audio Recording, Design, Hands On, Music, Technology

This course is for students who are interested in creating electronic music and is open to both beginners and those with experience in music production. Through a series of independent projects, students will utilize these tools to create their own beats and express their own artistic vision. In addition to creating their own music, students will gain an understanding of the origins and cultural impact of pivotal electronic music throughout the term including hip-hop and house music. The class will cover various facets of digital music, focusing on recording and editing in Abelton Live, and the science and technology behind electronic music production. Students will also have opportunities to share, discuss, and analyze electronic music that they choose themselves. No music experience is necessary. This course can be taken more than once and at the Honors level with permission from the instructor. One Term Course No prerequisite

Intro to 3D

Interests: Design, Film, Storytelling, Technology

Learn the foundational process to explore your ideas in three dimensions. Instruction will cover a range of materials, tools, and techniques in the intersection of design, craft, and building things you can use. This includes introductions to ceramics, plaster, resin, woodworking, and 3D printing. Regular discussion of The World of Art and Art History will provide context for our work. Critiques, documentation, and presentation will be essential elements of the class to help your skills. Prerequisites: Intro to Visual Arts or by the recommendation from the Visual Art Department Head.
