Dam Good Reads: Summer 2026

Posted on June 24, 2026

Beaver’s summer reading program is getting an upgrade this year! Dam Good Reads is joining forces with the Massachusetts Teen Choice Book Award (MTCBA), meaning the books students read this summer won’t just be for enjoyment—they’ll contribute to a statewide conversation.

Here’s how it works:

  • Read: Throughout the summer, students are encouraged to read from the MTCBA nominee list at their own pace. This can take the form of a physical book, ebook, or audiobook. (You can read more about where to pick up these titles below!)
  • Vote: Students will have an opportunity to vote for their favorite reads in September. Their picks simultaneously count toward the 2026 Massachusetts Teen Choice Book Award winner and the “Beaver Book of the Year”!
  • Discuss: In October, Upper School students will join Dam Good Reads discussion groups led by both peers and faculty to talk through the books they loved. Discussions are designed to foster connections across grade levels, offering a relaxed environment to reflect on a summer of reading.

There are plenty of ways to access MTCBA titles without spending a lot (or anything at all):

  • Libby: Libby is an online platform for public library patrons to borrow materials from local libraries. Using a Boston Public Library card, students can access eBook and audiobook titles instantly. Students can get a free Boston Public Library eCard using their Beaver email, which can be converted to a physical card at any Boston Public Library branch if borrowing a hard copy is preferred.
  • Minuteman Library Network: All MTCBA titles are available for checkout in the Minuteman Library Network, including at the Brookline branch. Most libraries offer three week checkouts with no late fines. You can also place a hold ahead of time for easy pickup. Browse the full MTCBA list here.
  • Local Bookstore: Chestnut Hill’s local bookstore Hummingbird Books has physical and audio editions available. You can also support your local bookstore by purchasing audiobook titles through Libro.fm. After creating a free account and choosing your local bookstore, a portion of every purchase goes directly to them. New members can use the code CHOOSEINDIE for a free audiobook credit at signup.

Whether you’re interested in going on a sci-fi adventure, listening to a mystery unfold, or diving deep into a world of fantasy, there’s something for everyone on this year’s list of recommended readings. Enjoy your summer of reading—and get excited to vote for your favorites and discuss when the school year kicks off!
