A culture of care and participation: A letter of gratitude

When I stepped into my role as Interim Head of School, I thought I knew Beaver well. As a parent, I had seen firsthand the profound difference a great teacher can make in the life of a student. Now I have the privilege of seeing that repeated throughout the school every day, in every part of the school.

This past year, my admiration for Beaver has only increased. Our faculty and staff approach their work with creativity, rigor, and extraordinary care. They take the time to know students well. They build relationships that give young people the confidence to take risks, to try again, and to discover what they are capable of. Above all, they know each individual student and know exactly what motivates them and what challenges them. That spirit is Beaver’s greatest strength, and I am grateful for it every day.

That same spirit reaches well beyond our classrooms. From the fields to the stage to the D-level, I have watched students show up for one another with kindness and camaraderie. I have seen families give their time, energy, and ideas to make this school stronger. I have heard from alumni whose love for Beaver remains strong long after graduation, and I have worked alongside volunteers and supporters whose belief in our mission shows up in countless ways, large and small. Beaver’s community is enriched all the time through these many acts of support and love.

Your generosity is a natural expression of our culture of participation and care. The gifts you make to Beaver are not abstract. They make possible the teachers, programs, opportunities, and experiences that change lives every single day: the moments of discovery, connection, and growth that define a Beaver education.

To everyone who gave, volunteered, taught, cheered, mentored, or simply showed up: thank you. You are the reason Beaver is what it is. I am grateful for all you have done, and I look forward with real optimism to all we will continue to accomplish together in the year ahead.

With gratitude,

Sarah Pelmas P’25
Interim Head of School
