Teaching & Learning at Beaver

As the fall admission season comes to an end and we look ahead to the January 15 application deadline, the topic of teaching and learning at Beaver has been at the forefront of conversation. In the video below, you’ll hear how Beaver challenge students to think more broadly and deeply, while building the skills and confidence they need to succeed and make an impact on campus and beyond.

We sat down with Beaver’s math, science, and English department heads to hear more about their academic practices and pedagogical approaches.

  • In our science classes, we challenge our students through hands-on, project-based learning that emphasizes deep scientific thinking, real-world application, and the confidence to experiment, iterate, and solve complicated, open-ended problems.
  • By focusing on reasoning, communication, and real-world application, our math classes develop confident problem-solvers. We teach students to think mathematically, model complex situations, and explain their ideas with clarity and precision.
  • We build strong readers, writers, and thinkers through English classes that are discussion-driven. Iterative skill practice and creative projects help students develop their voice, challenge assumptions, and connect texts to the world beyond school.
