🎭 The Middle School Fall Play, Sideways Stories from Wayside School, is happening this week on Thursday and Friday at 6 p.m. in the Black Box. Students coming to the play must be picked up no later than 7:30 p.m.

📰 Kieran Morrissey-Dhenke ’30 announced the Middle School Newspaper, The Times of Boston. Anyone can publish drawings, comics, or articles about whatever interests them. A form was sent out to students to sign up.

🦫 Catherine Crooker ’30 announced the Student Body Advisory Council. SBAC is a group of students who meet with Ms. Smith and Mr. Adjout every three weeks to discuss issues they feel are important to them and to the Middle School community. Catherine has been on SBAC for the past two years.

I have done SBAC for the past two years because it is fun and it gives you a place where you can talk about literally anything that you think should be different at Beaver. I recommend you apply for SBAC if you want to meet every three weeks for lunch and recess to talk about issues in the Middle School.

Catherine Crooker '30

An application form was emailed to students today.

🎉 The Feed Your Brain Conference is this Thursday! Students only need to bring to school what they need for music class and afternoon activities. This day allows Middle School teachers to prepare for conferences while students have enriching learning experiences led by BVR administrators and staff.

🏫 Parent/Caregiver Conferences are the next three Fridays: October 24, 31, and November 7. Students do not have school those days; Students are encouraged to attend their conferences.

🧩 Students interested in using the laser cutter for their Tetris Together project were encouraged to come to the D-Level today in R-TIME to learn how to use the machine.

🎃 Elizabeth Zimman ’30 and Kat Nahvi ’31 of Student Council announced they are hosting special Halloween events on Thursday, October 30, including a fair during afternoon activities!

Middle School students are encouraged to dress up for Halloween if they would like. Costumes should not prohibit students from fully participating in class. All costumes must be school-appropriate. Mr. Castillo said that dressing up in costumes relating to someone’s culture, ethnicity/nationality, racial identity, religion, disability, or other parts of someone’s identity is offensive and creates a mockery of it. These are not appropriate at school nor outside of school. Some appropriate costume ideas include superheroes, toys, food, and animals.

All students must complete a Google form to share their costume plans in advance.

Student Reminders

I talked about enjoying lunch and reminded students to stay in the Dining Hall until noon. We want them to stay at their tables until noon (instead of lining up waiting to leave). I pointed out that we are asking them to stay in the Dining Hall for at most 20 minutes, that this is a reasonable ask, and that many Newton public school families are upset that their lunch is only 20 minutes long. Students can always stay past noon to eat, but recess does not begin until noon. The reason we ask them to stay until noon is that this year, MS teachers supervise recess, so they need time to eat lunch.

We reminded students to let me know if they want to run a MS Meeting and to pick up trash on their way out of Gym A.
