Here are some highlights from this past week—February 10 through February 14—in the Upper School.

Students had a chance to plan for the upcoming weeks during Advisory on Monday. Advisors reminded students to review their afternoon activities for the spring term and to fill out forms indicating interest in English and Performing Arts courses. Students also built excitement for Dam Jam and the spirit week leading up to it.

Students in Spanish: Art & Society visited the Museum of Fine Arts on Tuesday. The class focused on the exhibit Power of the People: Art and Democracy, pulling inspiration from the art and history featured.

On Tuesday, 9th graders took a trip to Larz Anderson Park to get outside, go ice skating, and bond amidst the winter term.

The First Generation Club announced a new “Pinpoint Heritage” initiative to showcase where Beaver families are from. Students are invited to stop by the display– featured right outside the Dining Hall–to contribute to the map and share their heritage.

During the Middle School Feed Your Brain Day on Thursday, US students Koko VanDernoot ’27 and Brigid Fitzgerald ’26 led a workshop on Persuasion. Koko and Brigid drew inspiration for the workshop from Social Psychology, a BVR-X course focused on how our behaviors, identities, and perceptions of others are influenced by our social environments.

Prospective NuVu students visited the NuVu campus in Central Square. The visit allowed students to visualize what time at NuVu would look like and ask any questions to the NuVu team.

At a pep rally on Friday, Beaver students cheered on as students faced off against teachers in a basketball game. After students won 16-7, Mr. Manning led the US through the Beaver chant and reminded everyone to attend Dam Jam on Saturday, February 14. More information on Dam Jam can be found here.

The Mental Health Awareness and Psychology clubs partnered to create Beaver Has Heart, a community-wide event celebrating mental health and Valentines’ Day. With support from school counselors, the event was a moment for students to express gratitude through card writing, relax with yoga, and find a moment of mindfulness with a sensory table and coloring board.
