Hello, Middle School Students and Families! Below is a recap of this week’s MS Meeting. We switched our schedule this week, so our MS Meeting was today rather than Tuesday.
Felipe Hong ’31 ran today’s meeting. You can check out the slides from this week’s meeting here.
THE BVR STUDENT
Elena Todd ’31 presented: Is Disciplined with Technology
I chose to present on being disciplined with technology. This is an important skill because when you are not disciplined with your laptop, you can’t focus on school work. You are more likely to miss directions from teachers or miss deadlines. I always do my best to remain on task on my laptop by completing assignments and not playing games or other things that might distract me.

ANNOUNCEMENTS
Natalie Moniz ’29 and Mila Valkin ’29 recapped the Middle School Social Justice Retreat. Last Friday, over 100 students participated in the Hiatt Center Social Justice Retreat. The retreat was a full day of learning about disability justice, loving our bodies, how to be a true ally, breaking stereotypes, making art for social change, and standing up for the lives of trans and nonbinary people.
The Bionic Project 5K race is now open for registration.
The next Hiatt Leadership Institute is this Monday, February 10 at 8 a.m. on the D-Level. Students will be learning about the relationship between being an effective leader and having a collective mindset that allows a leader to act from a place of care towards others on a team and even be perfectly comfortable letting everyone’s skills shine and be used to achieve the collective’s goal. Students can sign up using the form Ms. Garayúa shared yesterday.
A few reminders for students:
- It’s important to bring headphones to school each day.
- Keeping the dining hall clean is the responsibility of our whole community. Students were reminded to clean up their tables before leaving the dining hall.
Jules Todd ’26, Ty Moyo ’27, Marli Forrester ’29, and L’mar Hibbert ’30 announced AfroFest, a special student-designed event happening this week! AfroFest aims to spotlight, celebrate, and learn more about the cultures encompassed in the African diaspora and celebrate the members of our community who share those cultural identities or roots.
