THE BVR STUDENT
Aubrey Emmons ’27 presented Acts with Honesty, Sincerity, and Integrity.
To me, this means fulfilling the role as a member of our school community and doing one’s best to treat others with respect. If we are all honest with each other, we can all learn from each other, without being lied to. If we are sincere we will be better people to each other, and maintaining our integrity will help us grow together as a school community. This is important because we all have to do our duty to make this school a safe place for ourselves and others to learn. This is an integral part of the Beaver student.

WHAT I LIKED ABOUT THIS BOOK …
The story is based on Korean folklore and is a mix of fantasy and realistic fiction. There’s a lot of suspense, and I like how all the characters connect together.
WHY I THINK YOU WOULD LIKE IT …
I recommend this book if you like fantasy stories that are mixed with other genres, or if you enjoy books about imaginary pets.
WHAT WE TALKED ABOUT
Andrew Adamic ’27 and El Strom ’27, Student Council President and Vice President, announced that all Middle School students will be taking three surveys this week to give their teachers feedback in the following areas: (1) what they’re learning, (2) their teachers’ expectations for them, and (3) how connected they feel with their teachers. The survey is anonymous, and teachers will receive a summary of the results. Teachers will not receive students’ individual answers.
Maddy SaCouto ’29, Reid Bugbee ’28, and Ruby Nielsen ’27, Student Council representatives, announced that Student Council has filled a jar with marshmallows located at the front desk for students to guess how many are in the jar. The winner will get a Beaver mug, two hot chocolate packets, and the whole jar of marshmallows! Guessing is open until December 12.
Cam Bloch ’27 and Rishaan Chowdhury ’29 announced that this week is Computer Science Education Week. They talked about Ada Lovelace and Grace Hopper, famous computer scientists, and how this week we will celebrate their birthday with special Computer Science-themed activities in math class and during CREATE today and Thursday. There will also be a cake on Friday in honor of both of their birthdays!
Rishaan Chowdhury ’29 announced the next BVR Leadership Institute, Social Justice and Changemaking happening next week on Monday, December 12 at 8 a.m. on the D-Level. The Hiatt Center sent an email to students to sign up. See the full list of workshops and descriptions here.
Jasper Ingenthron ’29 and Rishaan Chowdhury ’29 announced The Times of Boston, an online newspaper they are creating. They invited any student who is interested in being on the newspaper staff to join them Mondays during lunch/recess along with Mr. Greenberg, their faculty advisor. Any student can also submit articles (even if they don’t attend the weekly meetings).
Kaedin Janvier ’28 and Charlie Schaffer ’28 announced this week’s advisory topic, allyship. What it means to be an ally and how to respond to different situations, including situations involving microaggressions.
Wellness classes: History 7.2 had a wellness class today, History 8.2 will meet tomorrow, and Humanities 6.2 will have class on Thursday.
I reminded students about lunch and recess options, reminding them that hanging out in hallways during recess time is not an option. The playground, Upper Field, and both gyms are available every day, in addition to our daily lunch/recess programming.

Beaver was founded in 1920. In the years since over 4,000 students have graduated and become alumni. Fun fact! Matt Selman, who was a writer and producer for the Simpsons graduated from Beaver. Our alumni have become professional athletes, writers, entrepreneurs, politicians, doctors, and so much more. Today, we join them in celebrating Beaver! Our alumni are coming together across the world today to honor their Beaver experiences and what made it great. So, we as a middle school are doing the same. Last week, you all participated in an activity at MS meeting where you shared what you loved about Beaver. Together, we made this flame, and we also took the themes from your answers and made this word cloud. It’s fitting that community was by far the most popular answer because that’s what we are celebrating today!
Then members of the alumni office gave out swag to randomly selected middle school students. Happy Birthday, Beaver!

Today’s RISE activity was candle making, in honor of BVR’s Founder’s Day 2022 slogan Ignite The Flame. Through fun activities, students learn how to deal with stress and worry.
