US Weekly Wrap-Up: 12.09.22

Here is a short wrap-up from this past week—December 5 through December 9 —in the Upper School.

On Monday, 10th, 11th, and 12th grade students met in Advisory. Students were reminded of the December 12 deadline to apply for the Alex Cohn grant, a grant designed to support Beaver students who want to explore a particular interest. Students also had the chance to connect with their peers about BVR-x3, which took place from November 30 – December 2.

Beaver celebrated its 102nd birthday on Tuesday! Founders’ Day festivities took place all day, including a Beaver apparel spirit day and balloons decorating the halls. On behalf of all of us at Beaver, thank you to everyone that helped make Founders’ Day a success!

In honor of Computer Science Education Week, Student Council hosted their first Speaker Series event on Wednesday with guest speaker Tuan Ho. Tuan started his first tech company at age 20 and was recognized as Forbes 30 under 30 at age 23. Additionally, he gave away around $100k in scholarships and is currently building an AI communication technology company. Tuan started his presentation to the Upper School with a backflip (that he mostly landed) and went on to discuss the challenges and personal growth associated with starting a business. Later in the day, Student Council hosted a workshop with Tuan for any students interested in business, tech, or startups. Students got to ask specific questions and get feedback.

On Thursday, US Affinity Groups met in the afternoon and 9th, 11th, and 12th graders had Advisory. In Advisory, Seniors learned about a new check out system on campus. There are QR codes posted at the most commonly used exits to the building which are to be scanned upon leaving and returning to campus.

The first week of the winter term wrapped up on Friday. Students have settled into their new routines and we are looking forward to a fantastic term!
