Halle Dretler ’17 returned to campus this week to connect with students, faculty/staff, and community members about her work with EverFree, an organization that aims to empower and care for survivors of exploitation.
The day started with an US Meeting where Halle spoke to students and screened the short film survivor-led short film “Reclaiming Freedom.” In the film, survivors of human trafficking detail their stories and share how EverFree empowered them to reclaim their sense of freedom and identity. Following the screening, students had a chance to ask questions about Halle’s work and the topics discussed in the film. Halle also took time to detail her career path following her time at Beaver.
I can’t help but think about how much my time at Beaver influenced where I am today. During my time here I was able to develop a strong set of skills and a way of thinking that continue to guide me. Beaver is a school that thrives on creativity and thinking outside the box.

The conversation continued later in the day at a Mini Studio hosted by Halle and Helen Stiver, US Programs Coordinator for EverFree. The conversation started with a look into some alarming statistics that highlight the importance of addressing human trafficking. Students asked questions about what exploitation looks like, how EverFree works with survivors, and how we can get involved.
Later in the day, Halle and Helen were joined by Kelsey Morgan, EverFree’s Co-founder and CEO, for an event open to the Beaver community. Similar to the US Meeting earlier in the day, a screening of “Reclaiming Freedom” served as a look into EverFree’s work around the globe. Additionally, a panel discussion was hosted in order to produce a more detailed dialogue around EverFree, exploitation, and the work that is yet to be done. Kader Adjout–Beaver’s Director of Teaching, Learning, and Innovation–joined the discussion to highlight the impact of partnerships and touch on how Beaver students are addressing real-world challenges and aligning their projects with Beaver’s Deeper Learning mission to shape future leaders.
I see it every day- the littlest bit of effort makes a big difference.
