MS Minutes: 09.26.23

Hello, Middle School Students and Families! Here’s a look at what’s happening in the Middle School this week.

Sam Kosberg ’29 and Ave Hurley ’29 ran today’s meeting. You can check out the slides from this week’s meeting here.

THE BVR STUDENT

At Middle School meetings throughout the year, students present elements of The BVR Student.

Today, Eka Krishnan ’29 presented Tries New Things.

I chose it because I think it’s an important thing for everyone to think about and try. You should go above and beyond, take a different path, and try something new. You could try an activity, like last year I did debate. If you don’t try new things you will never know if you like it or not and new opportunities will never open up.

FEED YOUR BRAIN BOOK BUFFET

We had our first Feed Your Brain Book Buffet presentation. Ms. Kelley-Mudie, Librarian and Educational Technology Specialist, talked about how much Beaver loves to read! She loves when people recommend books to her, and of course, her job is to help the BVR community find books they would like to read. At MS Meeting we will have students share books they like. Our first presenter today was Catherine da Silva ’30.

THE BALLAD OF SONGBIRDS AND SNAKES by Suzanne Collins

WHAT I LIKED ABOUT THIS BOOK …
It’s a prequel to The Hunger Game series about President Snow. It gives a different point of view and makes him look like a better person. You can’t really know him as just a villain.

WHY I THINK YOU WOULD LIKE IT…
If you haven’t read Hunger Games yet, I recommend reading this book first, but it would also be good to read if you’ve already read the series. If you like dystopian fiction, you’ll like this book.

Ms. Kelley-Mudie also encouraged any Middle School reader to consider becoming a book reviewer for a website called Reading Middle Grade. Anyone interested can email Ms. Kelley-Mudie at km@bcdschool.org.

We talked about some BVR ways—including when elevator use is appropriate, where to put your stuff, and how to stop the spread of germs—and watched a video that highlighted these topics.
