US Weekly Wrap-Up: 06.09.23

Posted on June 12, 2023

Here is a short wrap-up from this past week—June 5 through June 9—in the Upper School.

Monday kicked off the final week of school for Upper School students. In Advisory, students took time to reflect on the year and complete any missing work.

On Tuesday, the Age of Reform class took a trip to the Edward M. Kennedy Institute. The trip was a chance for students to expand upon the discussions of democracy and political discourse that they have been analyzing in class.

At an Upper School Meeting on Wednesday, spring athletes with accolades from the EIL and NEPSAC were recognized. For more information on specific awards, check out the Beaver Athletics Instagram.

Senior Night took place Wednesday evening for parents and students. After catching up in the front circle, attendees made their way into Bradley Hall to watch a senior slideshow, hear from senior class representatives, and celebrate the class of 2023. Thursday marked the last day of classes for students.  The day started with an Upper School Awards ceremony where multiple students across grades were recognized. Department awards, Mente et Manu, and faculty prizes were handed out in addition to the Cum laude induction ceremony, which recognizes good character, honor, and integrity in all aspects of school life.

Following the awards, it was celebration time! A BBQ lunch brought students together on the Cohn Terrace as yearbooks were handed out. Faculty, staff, and students took the time to connect one last time before the school year ended.

Commencement took place on Friday. Following a class photo in the front circle, seniors made their way to Gym A where the stage was set. Speeches from Board of Trustees Clerk Lisa Smith-McQueenie (P’15 P’17) and Student Council President Ian Travis ’23 kicked off the ceremony, followed by a special musical performance arranged by Liam Infantino ’23. Head of School Kim Samson addressed each student personally as they accepted their diplomas and made their way to the front of the stage. Families, friends, teachers, and faculty were all in attendance.

With a “1…2…3…” and caps thrown into the air, Commencement brought the school year to an end. Congratulations to the class of 2023!
