US Weekly Wrap-Up: 03.03.2023

Here is a short wrap-up from this past week—February 27 through March 3 —in the Upper School.

Students started the week on Monday with Advisory. 9th and 10th graders reflected on the winter term through guided activities and questions. 9th graders were also made aware of an opportunity to learn more about Model UN and leadership from current seniors (more information can be found here). 12th graders discussed Senior Experience logistics and prepared for their final term.

In the afternoon, the winter season athletics awards night took place. Be sure to follow Beaver Athletics on Twitter and Instagram for updates as we head into the spring season.

Beaver had a snow day on Tuesday due to inclement weather.

On Wednesday, Upper School ensembles performed for both the Middle School and Upper School. For some ensembles such as B Side A Capella, this was the final performance of the term. For others, the performance was a preview of what was to come in the US Instrumental Music Concert.

Students in the Advanced Chinese Health and Environment class presented original product concepts in a Shark Tank pitch. Students got feedback on their products as well as their speaking from outside “sharks”.

Thursday marked the final day of the winter term at Beaver. The Media and Its Influences and Theories of Punishment classes took to the R level to present their culminating projects from the term. Media and Its Influences examined the role and responsibility of news media in society and explored questions such as “how has this changed over time?” and “is ‘the media’ independent and free?”. Theories of Punishment explored topics relating to the criminal justice system’s role as it pertains to retribution, rehabilitation, and restoration.

Later in the day, Beaver musicians took to the stage for the US Instrumental Music Concert.

There was no school on Friday as students look ahead to the spring term.
