US Weekly Wrap-Up: 02.24.23

Here is a short wrap-up from this past week—February 21 through February 24 —in the Upper School.


School was closed on Monday in observation of Presidents’ Day


On Tuesday, students gathered for Club Block. The Black Student Union hosted Beaver alum Sharon Eaton Hinton ’72 to hear about her experiences as a student during the late 60s. The visit was a full circle moment, as Hinton formed the very first Black Student Union at Beaver.


During an Upper School Meeting on Wednesday, several announcements were made.

  • Students from Select Singers shared that auditions for the group will be held on Tuesday, February 28 in the choral room.
  • The Hiatt Center reminded students that applications to the We Have a Dream Action Institute and Rally are due Friday, March 3.
  • Acoustic Coffeehouse representatives promoted their next concert, which will take place on Wednesday, March 1.
  • What I Did Last Summer, a play from the Advanced Theater class, debuts this week on Thursday, February 23 at 7p.m. and Friday, February 24 at 5p.m.

Exciting news from athletics was shared as well- both boys and girls varsity basketball are undefeated EIL champs! Both teams will compete in championship games this upcoming weekend. To read more about this accomplishment, click here.


Students from the Heliconian took to Instagram on Thursday to ask for submissions to the magazine. Any forms of art, writing, painting, poetry, drawing, screenplays, and more are accepted.

Thursday also marked the opening night of What I Did Last Summer. The play is a showcase of the hard work seniors have put in over the last four years at Beaver. Students, faculty, and families are all invited to see the show.


Friday was an exciting day for athletes at Beaver. Varsity girls hockey held their senior day game against Dana Hall. Girls varsity basketball faced off against Newton Country Day at 4 p.m. in the first game of the EIL Tournament. Similarly, boys varsity basketball had their first game of the tournament at 6 p.m. Updates on scores can be found on the Beaver Athletics Twitter.
