US Weekly Wrap-Up: 12.16.22

Here is a short wrap-up from this past week—December 12 through December 16 —in the Upper School.

Monday was the first day of the winter Spirit Week and the final week before Winter Break!

  • Monday: PJ / Comfy Day (hot chocolate encouraged)
  • Tuesday: Ugly Sweater Day
  • Wednesday: Formal Attire day
  • Thursday: Summer in December
  • Friday: Winter Wonderland

Seniors kicked off the annual Senior Annual Fund and encouraged participation from everyone in the class. The gathering had a cookies and hot chocolate theme and even a surprise appearance from Mr. Manning (who encouraged giving).

In Advisory on Tuesday, students were told what to expect from the guest speaker visiting on Thursday and had a chance to go over any concerns before break.

On Wednesday, students gathered for an Upper School meeting. Student Council shared plans for an Upper School art share that would give a spotlight to anyone at Beaver wanting to share their work.

Beaver’s MUN club shared highlights from their MUN conference at St. John’s Prep. Patrick Berg ’23 and Sisi Proctor ’25 were both awarded Best Delegate and Kate LaGatta ’25 was awarded Best Negotiator.

At a US Meeting on Thursday, Emma Shub ’24 and Danny Sidman ’26 introduced guest speaker Peggy Shukur from the Anti-Defamation League. The presentation was designed to educate students on anti-semitism and how to combat it within our community.  Beaver aims to continue these crucial conversations and build upon the information Peggy Shukur shared in the coming weeks.

On Friday, the winter break spirit was in the air! Students started the day by decorating cookies, making candles, assembling gingerbread houses, and cutting out snowflakes. Spirit Week’s Winter Wonderland theme saw a lot of participation as well.

We are wishing all students and staff a great winter break. See you in the new year!

Athletics:
At the US Meeting on Wednesday, Athletic Awards were given out to highlight the achievements and hard work of Beaver’s fall athletes.
