Upper School Weekly Wrap-Up: 03.28.22

Here is a short wrap-up from this past week—March 28 through April 1 —in the Upper School.


Monday was a Faculty and Staff Professional Development Day, and there were classes for students.


Classes resumed on Tuesday. We hope everyone had a restful Spring Break!

In Tuesday’s Club Spotlight, we spoke to the Outdoor Adventure Club leaders about how important it is to bring their passion for the outdoors to Beaver.

Also on Tuesday, juniors began their College Counseling classes.


On Wednesday, during US Advisory Meetings, students learned Dr. Rebecca Hall, author of Wake: The Hidden History of Women-Led Slave Revolts will join Beaver virtually at 2:20 p.m. (X-block). Mila Fields-Zayas ’22 and Nala Hayden ’22 will lead a conversation with Dr. Hall about her work. Wake is a graphic novel about both the history of women-led slave revolts and the work Dr. Hall had to do in order to uncover that history.

Wednesday evening students and parents had the opportunity to attend the College Process Presented by Challenge Success Zoom. This workshop, which Beaver co-sponsored with Challenge Success, offered Beaver families the opportunity to hear from experts in the field and learn about practical strategies to support their students through the college process and beyond.


In 9th, 10th, and 11th Grade Advisories on Thursday students began selecting courses for the 2022-2023 school year.

Thursday evening was the 8th Grade Upper School Welcome Event for parents.

Upper School Baseball kicked off their season with a home game victory against Gann Academy.


On Friday, we welcomed our current 8th-grade students—rising 9th graders—to the Upper School! They attended US classes in the morning and had a special 8th Grade Welcome to the Upper School Luncheon.

9th-grade students had Wellness and Identity workshops. Affinity Groups also met during lunch block.

Congrats to our EIL Girls’ basketball player Oralye Kiefer ’22 on being named to a Boston Globe All-Scholastic team for the 2021-22 winter season! She will be highlighted in the Boston Globe on Sunday, April 17.


On Saturday, BVR MUN Club students Theo Berenson ’23, Priya Dubois ’25, Hunter Chacko ’25, Colby Allen ’25, Ian Travis ’23, Joseph Fandrey ’22, Will Fandrey ’24, Richard Murphy ’22, and SiSi Proctor ’25 will participate in the Model UN at Concord Academy (CAMUN).
