Both the fall and winter term Biology Applications: DNA & Genetics science classes went on field trip Ginkgo Bioworks, a custom microorganism bioengineering company. At Ginkgo, students learned more about their work at the cutting edge of microbiome research in the fields of agriculture, nutrition, and personal care in addition to their collaborations with companies around the world to solve real-world problems through novel microorganism genome design. The classes had a chance to meet with scientists working on interdisciplinary teams in the areas of DNA synthesis, bioinformatics, robotics, and business development.
