Reunion 2024 Recap

Posted on May 13, 2024

The halls of Beaver were filled with laughter, conversation, and connection as alumni came together for Reunion 2024 on Friday, May 3.

Reunion kicked off with a Golden Graduates Luncheon, giving classes who have celebrated their 50th reunion a chance to reconnect. The class of 1974 and 1964 were highlighted as Head of School Kim Samson addressed attendees. “It’s really exciting to be here at Beaver,” Samson shared. “There’s a need for change in education, and it’s good to be here where we can do that work.”

On the R-Level, alumni heard from current Beaver students during a series of Learn Like a BVR Student presentations. Students shared what they have been working on during the 23-24 school year and answered questions about life at Beaver. In one presentation, Generative AI and Creative Expression, Hannah Sender ’25 gave alumni a crash course in generative AI and detailed how she has been experimenting with it through a student-directed project.

Students were invited to attend a talk with Matt Selman ’89 in the afternoon. Selman, an Executive Producer of the Simpsons, answered questions about his career in the entertainment industry and the challenges that come with writing for such a successful show. Selman mentioned how his teachers at Beaver–specifically his writing teachers–left an impact on him that has lasted his whole career.

The most fun and most challenging thing is to find originality in your storytelling.

In the evening, alumni of all ages came together in Bradley Hall for an All Alumni Reception. Over food, drinks, and some friendly Skee-Ball competitions, alumni reconnected and toasted to Beaver. An Alumni Awards ceremony was also held, with Wendy Fischman ‘89 P’25 receiving the 2024 BVR Alumni Award.

When I see Beaver today and the Beaver I experienced, it lets kids be kids. . . It really encourages happiness and comfort- and those are the best ingredients of an education.
