WHAT ELSE WE TALKED ABOUT

Jon Greenberg and six 8th grade students introduced a new program, SIPs, Student Inspired Projects. Through SIPs we want students to take charge of their own learning, build inquiry skills, and practice defining and managing their time. In a SIP, students will pursue their interests to learn what they want to learn and produce what they want to produce—digging even deeper into their learning.

The presenting 8th graders talked about their potential areas of interest.

    • Kiernan Collins: movie making
    • Sammie Clark: make a project about endangered marine animals and global warming
    • Beckett Freid: raise awareness for endangered whale species
    • Charlie Scott: practicing 3D printing and laser cutting
    • Andrew Adamic: global warming – specifically, an app to pick up trash
    • El Strom: astronomy and the cosmos

We then transitioned to the 8th Grade President Debates!

Nine students ran for office: Andrew Adamic, Grace Batycky, Kiernan Collins, Margo Kuznetsova, Ruby Nielsen, Ethan Okafor, Verveine Oringer, Zoey Steinberg, and El Strom. Moderated by Alex Borden ’27, students answered questions related to their leadership qualities, their ideas for fun student activities, and their goals for Student Council this year.

Student Council Grade Representatives: 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students can apply. Applications are due Wednesday, and their debates will be next week.
