Here is a short wrap-up from this past week—September 6 through September 9 —in the Upper School.
On Monday school was closed in observance of Labor Day.
Tuesday was the first day of school for Upper School students. The hallways were full of excited reunions and smiling faces, starting the year off on a great note.
The president of Student Council, Ian Travis ’23, encouraged US students at Opening Meeting to make this “a year that is special for everyone” and to come together as a community whenever possible.
In Advisory on Wednesday, students were prepared for the upcoming year by being notified of a few important dates.

- Orientation: Friday, September 9th
- Deadline to add/drop Fall Term classes: Friday, September 16th
On Thursday in Class Meetings, leaders from the 12th grade class introduced the new House system to their classmates. The House system is an entirely new way of grouping US students together and, throughout the year, these Houses will compete to earn points and (hopefully) finish the year on top!
Friday was First Friday at Beaver and there were many festivities on campus to celebrate!
In the morning, 9th graders competed in the Amazing Race, which saw them completing various challenges together across campus. Meanwhile, 10th grade tried to solve a Murder Mystery by deciphering clues and listening to a cast of characters tell their story. 11th graders were busy creating welcome packets for 9th graders and brainstorming how to create a more welcoming campus for younger students. As for 12th grade, they spent the morning getting a jumpstart on the college process by meeting with College Counseling.
In the afternoon, the new Houses came together for a variety of competitions and games. Each House broke off into smaller groups- called Isotopes- that were made up of students across all grades in the Upper School. They played games such as Wordle and Pictionary, posed for a photo booth, stacked crates as high as possible, and strategized together in order to beat a variety of other challenges.
At the Upper School Meeting, students were surprised with the arrival of a Kona Ice Truck to finish out the week.
