6th & 7th Grade Families
Looking Ahead to 2022-2023
Ms. Smith addressed the 6th and 7th graders to let them know about a form to complete with their families about their thoughts and reflections on this year as we prepare for next year. Each spring, Ms. Smith and I carefully place students in class sections and advisories for the following school year, and we will do our best to create the groupings of students most conducive to learning.

Reminder: Upper School New Family Welcome
8th graders were reminded that the Upper School New Family Welcome is Thursday night. 8th graders will meet the new students who will be in their grade next year, and parents/caregivers will learn more about life in the Upper School and get to know other families.

Lieli Singer ’25 presented Takes Time to Consider the Thoughts and Feelings of Others.
“It’s important to take time to consider the thoughts and feelings of others because people may be going through something you don’t know about. I try to keep an open mind, to see things from other people’s perspectives. There may also be times when you are not feeling your best, but a considerate, empathetic friend could help brighten your day.”

WHAT ELSE WE TALKED ABOUT
We announced a summer opportunity called The Business of Doing Good, a one-week introduction to entrepreneurship in the context of social justice for middle school students. The deadline to apply for the Hiatt Summer Fellowship (which this opportunity could be a part of) is this Thursday, May 19. Students can email Ms. Wildes with any last-minute questions.
Noelle Lee ’26 attended the Middle School Students of Color Conference. “A highlight from this year’s conference was getting to connect with other people who identify as students of color. An important takeaway for me was listening to other students’ experiences of being Asian American at their schools,” she said.
Noelle encouraged others to consider participating in a conference like this in the future.
Transplant surgeon Charles Strom (dad of El Strom ’27) will talk to 7th-grade students tomorrow about organ failure, organ allocation, and why the body sometimes rejects organ transplants.
Ms. Fitzgerald, Ms. WuMcomber, and Ms. Graham are hosting a discussion Thursday during first lunch about recent events in the news.
Blake St. Louis, the Director of the Research + Design Center, talked about a questionnaire that students will take during advisory Friday. The Skills Inventory Questionnaire will ask students about what they know how to do in the Research + Design Center and what they want to learn to do. Their answers will help the R+D team create new programs for next year.
STUDENT REMINDERS
We reminded current 7th-grade admission ambassadors that they can apply to be next year’s head admission ambassadors. The application deadline is today.
