BVR Senior Experience: Hosting virtual baking classes for children ages 2-18

Posted on May 19, 2020

For Senior Experience—i.e., the last three weeks of the Senior Spring term—students work on passion projects, attend internships, create art, and much more. We’ll be documenting their various experiences right here on the blog as well as on our Instagram.

Student name
Samantha Shapiro

How would you summarize your project in one sentence?
I wanted to combine my passions for baking and working with kids to create a series of virtual baking classes helping families to keep kids busy while stuck at home!

What’s your personal story or the motivation to work on this, and how does it connect to your Beaver experience?
I was originally planning on interning at a local preschool, but once it became clear that couldn’t happen, I began brainstorming ways I could take on my interests from home. I wanted to pursue a project I would have fun doing but would have a greater impact beyond my home.

Now after week one, having baked with more than 100 kids, I can say for sure that teaching is exhausting but super rewarding!

Where can we find your work?
You can sign up for the classes here. The classes are free, for ages 2-18, and no experience is required!
