VOTE for our 2020 SXSWedu submission: “Escape the (class)Room”

Posted on August 6, 2019

It’s that time of year again: We’ve submitted a panel to SXSWedu and we need your votes to get there!

This year’s submission is a workshop on how to implement gamified learning techniques into the classroom to increase student engagement and concept mastery. Melissa Alkire, global history teacher, will share with attendees how her students used the framework from the Escape the Room live-action video game series to create a similar experience in the classroom.

When students design “Escape The (Class)room” experiences to demonstrate their knowledge of a particular topic, their comprehension of the content skyrockets, they’re able to delve deeper into the subject matter, and they can share what they know with other students in an interesting and playful way. The skills they learn through creating these Escapes can be transferred to any class in any discipline. — Melissa Alkire
