Boys Cross Country
On a rainy, muddy afternoon, Beaver raced at Great Brook State Park this past Wednesday, defeating both Bancroft and Berwick but losing to Concord 32-27. Beaver placed three runners in the top ten spots, with Joe Connelly in first, George Wright in second, and Murray Skolnick in seventh overall. Rounding out the top seven Beaver finishers were Niles Cohen, Liam Brady, Neil Hildick-Smith, and Elias Duncan. So far this season, Beaver’s top two finishers have between them claimed the three fastest finishing 5000m times in the Eastern Independent League.
Next week, Beaver returns to Larz Anderson Park on Wednesday for the last home meet of the season. The team then travels to Brooks School on Saturday to race their only non-league opponents of the season, Brooks and Rivers.
Girls Cross Country
The Beaver Girls Cross Country Team ran against Bancroft and Berwick under difficult weather conditions on Wednesday. Despite a strong team effort, the girls did not come out on the winning end. This week, the team will take on the Lions from Lexington Christian Academy at Larz Anderson Park on Wednesday.
Field Hockey
The Field Hockey team dropped two league games this past week as they came close at Winsor on Wednesday and fell to a strong Portsmouth Abbey team on Saturday. The girls continue to work hard and will look forward to taking on Bancroft on Wednesday.
Golf
The Varsity Golf team dealt with wet weather this past week and took on two EIL opponents on soggy courses. On Wednesday, the team swept Landmark by a score of 6-0. the team then traveled to LCA to challenge the Lions. The Beaver Golfers came close, but ultimately fell by a score of 4-2. This week, the team will host Berwick on Wednesday and then travel to Worcester to play Bancroft on Friday.
Boys Soccer
The Boys Soccer team extended its winning streak to six games with two wins this past week. The boys traveled to Pingree on Wednesday and came away 6-1 winners. In a driving rain, the team scored 5 goals in a span of 12 minutes to open the second half. The team then defeated Providence Country Day by a score of 7-1 in Saturday’s Harvestfest game. The boys now stand at 7-0-0 in the EIL and 9 -1-0 overall. This week, the team will host undefeated Wheeler on Monday and then play Bancroft and Dexter on Wednesday and Friday.
Girls Soccer
On Wednesday, October 10, the girls hosted Concord. Maria Zecca scored two goals and while the team played very well, they were unable to hold onto a two goal lead late into the second half. Although the game ended in a 2-2 draw, the girls fought hard throughout. The next day, the girls traveled to Brimmer and May and lost to a tough and hard working team, as Beaver was unable to capitalize on its chances. Portsmouth Abbey traveled to Beaver on Saturday for homecoming. This was a game the team has been looking forward to since losing 6-1 earlier in the year. The girls played their best game of the year, as Maddie Brucker scored 2 goals, and Julia Schwartz added one to lead Beaver to a solid 3-0 shutout win. Beaver looks forward to tough games this week against Bancroft and Southfield.
Volleyball
The Varsity Volleyball team played two matches this past week. On Wednesday, the girls hosted Pingree and lost by a score of 3-1. The team rebounded on Friday by sweeping Chapel Hill Chauncy Hall 3-0 to bring their record to 3 – 4. This week, the girls will host Bancroft at 5:15 on Wednesday.
