Visitor’s Day 2025: Beaver Welcomes Parent and Alumni Volunteers to campus

Posted on November 18, 2025

Beaver welcomed parents, alumni, and parents of graduates back to campus for a firsthand look at student learning during Visitor’s Day 2025. Interim Head of School Sarah Pelmas kicked off the day by greeting guests in the Griffin Art Gallery, surrounded by student artwork and the soon-to-install fall ceramics exhibit. She discussed a recent visit to a music class where she observed students offering thoughtful peer critiques, foreshadowing the collaborative, student-driven learning that visitors would experience throughout the rest of the day.

Inviting our parent and alumni volunteer ambassadors back strengthens connections between the school and its extended community, allows us to thank them for lending their talents, and brings them closer to what happens on campus so they can share it with others.

It wasn’t long until attendees were immersed in classrooms, sitting alongside students as they solved equations, played in instrumental ensembles, and presented about their ongoing research. In Physics Foundations, attendees got a firsthand look at how students create on the Design Level as they refined designs for mechanical marshmallow launchers. In the BVR-X course Philosophy, a conversation around morality and decision-making showcased how Beaver students tackle complex topics and share their learning.

I was impressed by how the students worked collaboratively in groups while staying focused and engaged at the highest level.
