With students returning for the 24-25 school year this week, the energy at Beaver is unmistakable. Whether students are reconnecting with friends, jotting down ideas for the fall term, or simply getting settled into their new schedules, the first week has already proven to be exciting and productive.
There’s no better way to finish out such an incredible first week than with First Friday!
First Friday is a chance for Beaver students to spend time outside of the school schedule building community with their peers. Each grade level has a different agenda, bringing students all over the Greater Boston Area for various activities. Below, you can preview some of the fun that’s in store…
Students in 9th grade will be staying on campus for First Friday. After kicking off the day with a quick advisory check-in, students will dive into a campus competition. Each freshman advisory will be challenged to work together to score points in events such as capture the flag and class trivia. The competition will culminate in a boat design challenge, tasking each team with constructing a boat that can not only float, but also beat out others in a race.
10th grade students will be hopping on a bus headed for downtown Boston on First Friday. In the city, students will compete in a scavenger hunt with their advisories. A list of scavenger hunt items–including “take a photo of your group on the steps of the State House” and “recite the Beaver ‘GNAW’ chant on camera”–will serve as guideposts for the day. Students will also grab lunch with their advisors and enjoy some downtime in the Boston Commons.
Juniors will be spending First Friday at Boda Borg in Malden. Boda Borg is gaming center comprised of immersive, interactive challenges that teams of students can conquer together. From solving puzzles in an Alcatraz-themed course to climbing walls to escape lava, each “quest” will require students to get collaborative and crafty.
*Please note that all juniors must have a signed waiver to participate in this activity. Students under the age of 18 will need a parent/caregivers’ signature.
Seniors will kick off First Friday with a class meeting in Bradley Hall that will include college counseling. Following this, the class will head to Tree Top Adventures in Canton for a day of exploring nature and navigating various rope courses. Senior Grade Team Leaders and Deans have structured this outing to involve various moments for all seniors to come together, making memories as a class.
