Here is a short wrap-up from this past week—November 13 through November 17—in the Upper School.
Students started the week on Monday with class meetings. Each grade discussed approaching deadlines and previewed an upcoming speaker coming to campus. Discussions were held surrounding how to engage in difficult conversations and what to expect from the speaker on Wednesday.
On Tuesday, the Acoustic Coffee House club hosted an open mic event in the Roger’s Room. The event featured singing, instrumental performances, and poetry performed by students and faculty. Featured songs included Hopelessly Devoted to You, California Dreamin‘, and original works by students.
On Wednesday, professor Yuval Evri visited campus to engage in a dialogue with all Upper School students. Prior to the visit, students shared more than 200 questions they had about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict as a whole and the current Israel-Gaza war in particular. Professor Evri addressed these questions and shared important information about the history, terminology, and current state of the conflict.

In a basketball double header on Wednesday, both boys and girls varsity were victorious in their respective games. Boys varsity basketball defeated Roxbury Latin 72-69 and girls varsity basketball defeated Wheeler at home 74-34.
At an Upper School meeting on Thursday for grades 9, 10, and 11, Head of School Kim Samson shared details about the current work being done to update the US schedule. Ms. Samson highlighted the key reasons for making these changes and finished the meeting by opening the floor for student questions. Following this meeting, a survey was sent to Upper School students to share their feedback and ask additional questions.
Members of the Beaver Marketing department visited the BVR-X course Entrepreneurship with a Purpose. The visit expanded upon the inquiry students are currently doing into the Marketing funnel and how Beaver is managed as a business. Students asked questions about the Beaver website, apparel, and how Beaver engages with its audiences.
