Here is a short wrap-up from this past week – April 17 through April 21 —in the Upper School.
There was no school on Monday in observation of Patriots’ Day.
Students started the week on Tuesday by meeting with their clubs during Club Block. This week, the Black Student Union shared more about their group during a Club Spotlight. Click here to read more about the BSU!
On Tuesday evening, Beaver hosted its first ever Iftar night. The event, which was planned by members of the Muslim Affinity Group, was a chance for students and members of the community to come together with food, a photo booth, henna, and music. As Sebah Beshir ’24 states, the event was an “opportunity to share how we spend the month of Ramadan” and “a chance for people to find out more about what we’re passionate about”. Beaver filmmakers debuted their original films during the Film Club’s 7th Annual Beaver Film Festival on Wednesday. Students gathered in Bradley Hall to watch each movie and root on their favorites in the subsequent award ceremony.
Co-founder of Riot Games Brandon Beck spoke to Art of Storytelling English students about video game production. Beck, who was instrumental in the creation of the popular game League of Legends, shared a bit about how storytelling is an integral part in gaming. Beck’s visit comes after the class read Tomorrow, Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, a novel centered around the world of gaming.
There was no school on Thursday due to spring parent teacher conferences.
On Friday, R+D Ambassadors and BEAT hosted a sustainable clothing drive in honor of Earth Day. Students were encouraged to bring in unneeded clothing items to donate to the drive leading up to the drive. Not only could students “shop” for new clothing items at the event, there were also bleach tie-dye stations, instructions on how to create “wildflower bombs”, and information on fast fashion.
