Here is a short wrap-up from this past week—May 9 through May 13 —in the Upper School.

In US Advisory on Monday, students had a quick meeting via Zoom for the Transfer of Power. We said goodbye to the previous Executive Board Leaders of 2021-2022, and welcomed the new 2022-2023 members.

Here are the elected students and their roles:

  • President: Ian Travis ’23
  • Vice President: Anna Lazzarino ’23
  • Treasurer: Jack Botein ’23
  • Director of Communications: Rohan Kalan ’23
  • Representative to the Board of Trustees: Emma Shub ’24

Monday evening was the Alumni Welcome for the Class of 2022. Students were welcomed to the Front Circle and enjoyed food trucks and fire pits as we continued to kick off Senior Spring by welcoming Class of 2022—our (very-soon-to-be) newest albums to the very cool, very hip alumni community.

In Tuesday’s Club Spotlight we had a chat with the leaders of the Marine Art + Awareness Club, and they talked about the importance of raising awareness of marine conservation through art.

In US Meeting on Wednesday, Head of School Kim Samson shared strategic initiatives for the future of Beaver with students.

There were also Admission Group Tours for prospective families for the 2023-2024 school year.

In the afternoon, we had Senior Day for Softball vs LCA.

On Friday, 9th grade students had Wellness and Identity workshops. Affinity Groups also met during lunch block.

Friday afternoon was a Planned Student Walkout. Some of our US students have planned a walkout to express their views on the potential overturning of the landmark Roe v. Wade by the Supreme Court. This walkout was entirely planned and led by students. We as a school will, however, continue to find opportunities to discuss the issue, partner with students and take actions where we can as a community.
