Beaver Reflections: I graduated from Beaver in 1979 and started in 7th grade. Although the first couple of years were somewhat challenging because it was a completely different group of kids, I still remember everyone being really friendly. One of the things that Beaver did for me more than anything was allow me to figure out what I was good at – It was such a supportive environment.

What is #happeningnow in your life: “As a cancer surgeon, my work hasn’t slowed down since this is essential work. The hardest part of this has been that while my work volume stayed the same, I now am homeschooling my children. This has added another level of complexity on top of what has already been a pretty busy schedule. I had to administer the AP exams for both of my children which was very stressful due to internet issues.

“I remember everyone at Beaver being very friendly. It was not very long until I felt like I was part of the community. The teachers, faculty, and students were all great.” – Cheryl Saenz ’79

Advice to the current Beaver students: “You all have been through things that not many students have gone through. This pandemic has been a testament to how strong and capable you all are. Do not let any sort of adversity stand in your way. If plan A does not work, go to Plan B. And if Plan B does not work go to Plan C. Don’t ever think that you have exhausted every option for something you really want. You will get there because of your resilience.
