The Beaver 9 began its 2011 campaign Wednesday, dropping an extra inning affair to Gann Academy 3-2 in 9 innings.
Steven Phillips was on the bump for Beaver, going 5 strong innings, allowing 2 runs, only one of which was earned, while scattering 3 hits. Henry Floyd followed with 3 innings of scoreless, one hit relief striking out 3 Gann batters. Beaver was held hitless through the first 5 innings by Gann ace Danny Mael. Connor Laubenstein got things going in the 6th, though, leading off the inning with a single. Clean-up man Steven Phillips would promptly double, setting up a 2nd and 3rd situation. Robbie Shapiro would prove to have the biggest hit for Beaver as he singled to left center, scoring both runners. Beaver would then be unable to plate another run despite having runners on in the 7th, 8th, and 9th.
The Beaver 9 looks to bounce back as they begin their Eastern Independent League slate on Friday with a 4:30 tilt at Bancroft.
