When you are using a resource you take what you will use and not what others will use. If you take what others need to use, you take away their time and what they will need. For example, when people are building a project they may take too big of a piece of cardboard and another person might need that big piece of cardboard. Only take what you are going to use.

WHAT I LIKED ABOUT THIS BOOK …
The story is about a girl who had to move from Cuba to New York City. The author uses lots of details to explain her life, and you really feel like you’re there.
WHY I THINK YOU WOULD LIKE IT …
You’ll like this book if you enjoy realistic fiction or books in written in poem form. This book is also good if you want to hear the perspective of someone who is being body shamed.
WHAT WE TALKED ABOUT
Ms. Kellie-Mudie, Eka Krishnan ’29, and Lee Jacobs ’29 announced #NewsLiteracyWeek.
This annual event aims to inspire news consumers, educators, and students to practice news literacy and to strengthen trust in news media by reinforcing the role of credible journalists.
Lee and Eka spoke about writing for their Humanities newspaper, The Avocado Times, and a journalist they interviewed who spoke about the importance of various viewpoints, as a journalist, leaving your own bias aside, and being aware of your privileges.
The Middle School Social Justice Retreat is this Friday from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and about 60 middle school students are participating in the full day of workshops. To kick off the day, everyone will attend the keynote speaker, Rabbi Berenbaum ’01 at 8 a.m. in Gym A.
In her talk, she will share what the retreat theme Stronger Together meant to her as a Beaver Middle School student and what it means to her today as a black Rabbi at Temple Beth Zion.
Sammie Clark ’27 announced Spring Afternoon Activities which start in late February. Students and families will receive the form to sign up tomorrow.

We also are collecting information about students who might want to participate in US Sailing.
Today during music class, middle school students attended a performance by Brown University’s acapella singing group, the Jabberwocks. One of the group members is our very own, alum Christine Alcindor class of 2021.
Rishaan Chowdhury ’29, Student Council 6th grade representative, announced the winners of the Guess the Candy in the Jar contest.
Mason Baker ’29, Caley Rice ’28, and Margo Kuznetsova ’27 won bags of White Rabbit creamy candy in honor of the Lunar New Year.
Charlie Scott ’27 and Jackie Horvitz ’27 recapped their experience on the Chinese C field trip to Chinatown last week.
On their trip, students in the Chinese C class talked to seniors at the Greater Boston Chinese Golden Age Center who immigrated from China. They interviewed them in Mandarin about their Lunar New Year traditions and then the seniors put on a performance. They finished their visit to Chinatown by practicing their Mandarin while shopping for candy.
Marwa Murphy ’27 and Jackie Horvitz ’27, members of the winter debate team, congratulated Rishaan Chowdhury ’29 who won the 1st place speaker award at the Lumos Debate Tournament.
Margo Kuznetsova ’27 and Zarra Burke ’27 announced the 8th grade baby picture page we have in the yearbook each year.
All 8th graders need to submit a picture of themselves as a baby, between the ages of 0 and two years old. 8th graders who submit their pictures by Friday will be entered into a raffle for candy.
Grace Batycky ’27 and Kaedin Janvier ’28 announced this week’s Teacher Appreciation. Grace presented Ms. Wu Macomber and Kaedin presented Ms. Baker.
Sabrina Feinberg ’29 and Vanessa Jean-Marie ’29 announced this week’s advisory activity: silent squares puzzle. Each advisory will split into two teams to solve a puzzle.
