MS Minutes 10.11.22

Posted on October 11, 2022

Hello, Middle School Students and Families! Here’s what happened at today’s MS meeting:

Lila Faye Mandelman ’28 and Reid Bugbee ’28 ran today’s meeting. You can check out the slides from this week’s meeting here.

THE WEEKLY FEATURES

BVR STUDENT HIGHLIGHT

Max Hogan ’28 presented sleeps, eats healthy food, and is physically active.

Sleeping for 7-9 hours is very important because, during the school day, you can learn better and focus more in class. It’s important to stay active because it is better for your mental health, and improves your ability to do day-to-day tasks. Mental health is very important to me because it helps us handle stress, make healthy choices and be a better person. I encourage you to think about: getting more sleep, eating healthy, and staying physically active

FEED YOUR BRAIN

We had our first Feed Your Brain Book Buffet presentation! Ms. Kelley-Mudie, Librarian and Educational Technology Specialist, talked about how much Beaver loves to read! She loves when people recommend books to her, and of course, her job is to help the BVR community find books they would like to read. At MS Meeting we will have students share books they like. Our first presenter today was Aly Diaz ’29.

The Witch Boy

WHAT I LIKED ABOUT THIS BOOK …
It has a great plot and characters and the story gives good vibes. It really keeps you interested.

WHY I THINK YOU WOULD LIKE IT …
I recommend this book because it’s a unique story. If you like fantasy, you’ll like this series.

WHAT WE TALKED ABOUT

Cassie Scott ’28 and Redi Bugbee ’28, members of SAGA, the Sexuality and Gender Alliance, announced that today is National Coming Out day. They shared a list of dos and don’ts when someone comes out to you. For example, do ask how you can support them, and don’t share their news with others.

Parent/Caregiver-Teacher Conferences are the next three Fridays: October 14, 21, and 28. Students are encouraged to attend their conferences.

October 14 & October 21
If your conferences are Friday, October 14 or Friday, October 21, families are welcome to stop by the Rogers Room to check out the Creation Stations. The four stations are storytelling with scratch, making BVR keychains, origami twist notes, and basic circuitry.

October 28
We are offering a free babysitting class for Middle School students on Friday, October 28 from 8 to 11 a.m. or 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. during conferences. The class will cover how to react responsibly to medical emergencies, perform first aid for common childhood injuries, how to best call 911, and how to prevent and relieve choking. Participants will be prepared to interview for a babysitting job, select safe activities for children of different ages, and run their own babysitting business. Participants will leave with a certificate of completion for babysitting, and a first aid book. In addition, upon successful completion, participants will be certified in CPR/AED.

Students were emailed to sign up, and you can also sign up here. Please note there can only be 12 students in each session.
