BVRacademics: Theories of Punishment

Posted on January 1, 1970

For the past three weeks, students in Theories of Punishment have researched and examined the criminal justice system. They are now preparing to exhibit and showcase their work around Criminal Justice Reform.

You are welcome to come on your own, bring your class, hear students present and offer feedback. We ask you not to send your class unaccompanied as students will be spread out and using spaces throughout the R Level.

From policing to health and safety in prisons to ethical prison design, students have researched and examined issues related to the criminal justice system and worked to create solutions. Students have consulted with experts, attended a virtual field trip to a medium-security prison, and interviewed a man who spent 35 years in prison who spoke about the collateral consequences of incarceration and the challenges faced when re-entering society. Students have made infographics, created presentations, written bills, made websites, created blueprints of their designs, written training manuals, and used virtual reality to highlight their selected topics while also proposing viable solutions.
